Zi comparisons by ElementalSpirits Zi comparisons by ElementalSpirits
A quick sketch to show the differences between Ziís different forms (for those few that actually knew about them). Zi is in dire need of a real character sheet but this will have to do for now. Ziís large form is actually more complicated then Ďjust grows intoí, but thatís for another day, and for simplicityís sake Iíve added the ages at which she would reach each of them if she were to grow into them. Now if you arenít interested in a bunch of over described character details, skip the rest of this text. =D

If Ziís growth rate seems odd, thatís because I see her as a hybrid of two (unknown) made up species. Zi was created purely for, and a victim of, the pet trade, and this is why she wares a ribbon and is leucistic (has reduced pigmentation in her fur). Possibly it also explains other traits about her, but since both we and Zi donít know her parentage, itís hard to tell :XD: (she doesnít even know sheís a hybrid). Anyway, her growth and general attributes mimic a ligerís so she has prolonged and increased growth period/rate. And onto the form details!

Kitten form: Zi also seems to have the greying(?) gene, where her coat is born darker and gradually gets lighter as she ages. Her spots are very visible at this age, but quickly fade. The base coat can either be this cinnamon-y colour, off white or pure white etc, Iím not particularly consistent, or bothered. You can argue that as sheís aging all this is lightening, so it works! :XD: Her ribbon is neatly tied up into a bow at this age. Pretty average kitten build.

Small form: The spots are almost invisible, or completely gone. If they are visible, theyíre most concentrated on the belly or in creases of the fur (the spots are made from bars on the individual hairs (agouti fur), not solid colour spots, so they are visible at certain angles, but not necessarily all of the time). The noticeable markings that remain are the caracal like face markings, paws, tail tip and dorsal stripe. The base coat is dramatically lighter or can be pure white already. By this point, she has gotten too big for her owners and been abandoned, so her ribbons are no longer kept in a nice neat bow, poor thing. Sheís very lanky at this age and basically caracal shaped.

Large form: Sheís pretty much pure white at this point, though you can add (very) faint spots if it strikes your fancy. I don't, I'm lazy. The only striking markings that are left are the ear rims, dorsal stripe, paws and tail tip. All the others have gone. Sheís a much larger build as an adult and more lynx or puma shaped. Other things of possible note are that the bell around her neck is noticably smaller (because sheís bigger!) and that her tail has grown to a normal catís length, instead of the half length of the small form, or the ľ length of her kitten one (there's no explanation for this, it just is ^^;).

If you read all that, I commend you.

This is interesting. I have a character who's some kind of unknown hybrid too. I've gone back & forth in my head as to what size I want him. Sometimes I would like him the size of an ocelot & other times I see him the size of a lion.. check him out C:

I'm glad to have given you something to contimplate, and I hope it helps you desgin you character (Vito has a great design by the way). Yeah Zi has spent a lot of years floating around as just 'really big' as well, but then I altered her form slightly (and at the same time couldn't bare to part with her large one) and the little one devloped and altered itself really quickly. But that was really anoying because I felt like she couldn't be big and small because it didin't work. XD And eventually I was looking up how liger's grow one day, it suddenly all clicked. It really works with her background too because I can easily imagine that people would want a freak of nature like Zi, but quickly get bored and dump her once she started getting to big. :XD: But at the same time she's not so big that it's silly anyone would try to keep it as a pet or that there aren't 100s of other Zi's running about, because then they would see how big Zi was going to be when they got her, because both parents would have been smaller. =D Her large form still doesn't make 100% sense to me, but I'm a lot happer with it. I hoestly believe characters create themselves sometimes, and if you try to add things that they aren't, they just twist themselves until you get it right. :XD: Hopfully Viro will tell you what he's ment to be soon enough. ;)

I am regret to inform you that this kitty belongs to me now because she looks so cute in this picture.*kidnapps Zi and runs away*

This sheet is so useful that I can manage the real size of this animal.I especially like the pose of her small form, and the angle you set on her large form, and your idea of her ribbon is also an imaginative and considerate one...or only because of my lacking of imagination...so that the kitty won't traple on them and falls.^^

I am now working on the design of Alin and Shurga, maybe someday I'd come to you and ask for some advise.xD

I do not think that Zi will stay with you long, since you have far too many agressive characters for her liking. :XD:

Thanks! Though I am sure Zi still must have some magical power to keep those ribbons floating up like that. Otherwise I'm sure they would be all trampled and crushed into the ground as she walks.

I shall look forword to seeing the full results then once you are done, and of course you may ask me for advise if you want to. Desgining characters is fun! =D

Oh really? Well I am only aggressive to the viliens of the world anyway, not such a cute kitty like this.*holds onto the struggling cat*

I agree, and it's my first time to find that drawing animals with spots and stripes can be so...breath-taking...a job.xD

Hmm... I don't know, she's met some of your characters and she wasn't impressed. :XD:

They're fun to do though. <3

Well...I wouldn't like Zi either if she has a similar personality with you.

Zi definately has a different (and most likely) better personality then me... AND she's more durable. Much less likely to be killed in one of your common attacks.
