This is my entry in *Psychopomp16’s competition. You had to draw Io and another character as a different species, with the idea being to get people to draw animals outside their comfort zone… Well I like to think I draw quite a wide range already (although my gallery doesn’t show it ) but I honestly can’t ever remember drawing fish… so that’s what I did.

The black and white in front is a Kumonryu koi, [link] these as really amazing fish because their patterns are always changing and their name comes from a Japanese legend where a dragon that turns itself into a cloud and races through the sky. So they’re kind of mystical… This is also my new character which I just call The Kumonryu…

The second one is Io and she’s a Sarsa Comet [link] (Comet referring to the fin length and Sarsa referring to the red & white colouring) although the colours aren’t quite right so maybe she’s got a little Shubunkin in there as well (Or she could just be a yearling changing colour ^^) I altered her design a bit to fit in more with being a fish, Her cheeks are white because Sarsa’s usually have white gill plates and I didn’t give her, her jewellery because a) the necklace would just fall off and b) fish don’t have ears for earrings…
Oh and the dorsal fin is black because Io’s wings are black.

I’m really pleased how the fish came out, especially the fins, but the rest isn’t so good… I don’t know it just feels like it’s missing something… so I’d really appreciate some feedback so I can change it… please…
